How Much Does a Destination Wedding in Puerto Vallarta Cost?

A Realistic Guide

Weddings Vallarta by Barbara

One of the first questions every couple asks when they start dreaming about a Puerto Vallarta wedding is: what is this actually going to cost us?

It’s a fair question — and honestly, a complicated one. The truth is that a destination wedding in Puerto Vallarta can look very different depending on your guest count, your venue, the time of year and the level of detail, decor and extravagance you want. We’ve planned intimate ceremonies for 20 guests and full production celebrations for over 100 — and the investment for each looks nothing like the other.

What we can tell you is this: Puerto Vallarta consistently delivers more beauty, more warmth and more memorable experiences per dollar than comparable weddings in comparable tourist destinations in the US, Canada or Europe. But “affordable” doesn’t mean “without a budget.” Here’s how to think about it.

The Biggest Factor: Guest Count

More than any other variable, your guest count drives your total investment. Every additional guest adds catering, seating, florals, favors and often venue size. Before you look at any numbers, get clear on your approximate headcount — it will determine almost everything else.

A rough way to think about it:

  • Intimate wedding (up to 30 guests) — the most budget-friendly option, with maximum flexibility on venue and style
  • Mid-size wedding (30–75 guests) — the sweet spot for most destination couples; enough energy to feel like a real celebration without the logistics of a large event
  • Large wedding (75–120+ guests) — a full production requiring more coordination, larger venues and a more robust vendor team

The Main Cost Categories

1. Venue

Your venue is typically your largest single expense. In Puerto Vallarta, you have three main categories:

Private villas — these offer the most flexibility, privacy and visual impact. Think infinity pools, panoramic bay views and multiple terraces. Villa rental fees vary widely depending on size, location and season. Contact us for venue options, current availability and pricing.

Event gardens and beach venues — spaces like Tizate Beach Garden or Terra Noble Spa, where many of our couples have celebrated, offer a dedicated wedding environment with professional infrastructure. Contact us for current pricing and availability.

Hotels and resorts — convenience-focused, often with packages that bundle venue, catering and accommodation. They tend to charge high fees for outside vendors as they prefer that you work with their in-house groups/wedding planners and use their vendors with their markups. This can equate to beingbeing less flexible and more expensive than holding your wedding at a private villa/venue. Especially if you want to hire your own wedding planner and/or have a customized wedding tailored to you rather than use their set packages. It can be simpler however, logistically for destination guests.

The key question to ask any venue: what does the rental fee include or not include?

2. Catering

Food and beverage is typically the second largest investment, and it’s where guests will notice the difference most. At Weddings Vallarta by Barbara, we have been working with our catering partner for numerous years — they are true caterers first and foremost, not a restaurant that offers catering services on top of their daily service, which means they know how to cater to groups of 10 to 1000+ and and are experts at controlling the quality, freshness, presentation and ensuring proper service timing from beginning to end.

Catering costs depend on your menu style (plated dinner vs. buffet vs. stations), ingredients, number of courses, bar package and dietary requirements. Contact us for a custom catering quote.

What we always tell couples: don’t cut corners on food and always offer some form of open bar. Your guests have traveled far and spent money on flights and accommodations to share this special day with you. The food and beverage is something they will talk about for years.

3. Florals & Decor

This is where your wedding gets its visual identity — the arches, the tablescapes, the centerpieces, the ceremony backdrop. Puerto Vallarta has extraordinary tropical flowers available year-round, which makes for stunning arrangements at a fraction of what you’d pay in North America.

Not everyone wants tropical florals and a tropical vibe to their wedding florals and decor however, and we’ve got you covered. Romantic pastels and blushes, bold colors, natural whites, ivories and greens, we have it all and we can design the style and feel you’ve been dreaming of.

Floral and decor investment depends entirely on your vision. A tropical esthetic requires less than a glamorous flower laden look, and a more clean, minimalist look is even more budget friendly. Pricing can vary significantly, even between florists — we’ll work within your budget to maximize impact.

4. Photography & Videography

Your photos are what you’ll have long after the flowers have wilted. The best photographers in Puerto Vallarta book 12–18 months in advance, so this is not the category to leave for last.

Pricing and packages vary by photographer. We have trusted professionals we can wholeheartedly recommend with varying ranges of investment levels. You just have to choose the one that speaks to you.

5. Music & Entertainment

From a classical guitarist during the ceremony, to a live band, to a DJ for the reception, Puerto Vallarta offers everything. Mariachi, fire dancers, saxophone players, harpists — we’ve done it all.

Let us know what you’ve envisioned and we’ll do everything we can to make it happen.

6. Wedding Planning Fees

A local wedding planner is not a luxury for a destination wedding — it’s a necessity. The money you save by having someone who knows every venue, every vendor and every permit requirement will far outweigh the planning fee.

Our planning fees are structured to match the scope of your event — contact us to discuss what’s right for yours.

7. Additional Costs to Budget For

Beyond the main categories, here are the items couples often forget to account for:

  • Legal ceremony fees (if doing a civil marriage in Mexico — requires a judge, witnesses, blood tests, translations and document processing)
  • Hair and makeup for the bride and wedding party
  • Guest transportation — airport transfers, shuttle to/from venue
  • Welcome dinner/party and/or welcome gifts for guests
  • Lighting for the dinner and reception
  • Dance floors
  • Gratuities for your vendors

What Your Budget Actually Buys in Puerto Vallarta

Why We Don’t Publish Exact Prices

You may have noticed we haven’t given you a single fixed number in this article. That’s intentional — and it’s in your interest.

Destination wedding costs in Puerto Vallarta are influenced by the Mexican peso to US dollar exchange rate, seasonal demand, vendor availability and the ever-changing cost of fresh ingredients, imported décor and logistics. A number published today may be meaningfully different by the time you’re booking your 2026 or 2027 wedding.

More importantly: your wedding is not a generic package. It’s a custom-designed event built around your specific vision, guest count, style and priorities. A quote that fits one couple perfectly will be completely wrong for another.

What we offer every couple who reaches out is a personal consultation — a real conversation about what you’re dreaming of, what your priorities are, and what a realistic investment looks like for your specific celebration.

What Your Budget Actually Buys in Puerto Vallarta

Here’s the honest truth that most couples discover when they start planning: a wedding in Puerto Vallarta delivers a level of beauty, warmth and experience that would cost two to three times more in a comparable US or Canadian venue.

The sunsets are free. The tropical flowers are abundant and affordable. The local vendors are talented and value-driven. And the experience of gathering your people in one of the most beautiful places on earth? Genuinely priceless.

We’ve had the privilege of creating weddings for couples from across the US, Canada, the UK and beyond — at La Mansion, Villa Estrella Mar, Terra Noble, Villa Celeste, Casa Lido, Casa Valerie, Tizate Sea Garden and many more. Every single one was different. Every single one was worth it.

Ready to Talk Numbers?

The best way to understand what your Puerto Vallarta wedding will cost is to have a real conversation with someone who has planned hundreds of them.
